Frequently asked questions

How much is the old age grant in 2026?

R2 400 a month from 1 April 2026, and R2 420 for people aged 75 and older (an extra R20). The amount was R2 320 before April 2026.

How much is the Child Support Grant in 2026?

R580 a month per child from 1 April 2026. A relative caring for an orphan can also get the CSG Top-Up of R290, so R870 in total.

Why does the Foster Child Grant have two amounts?

The Government Gazette increases it twice in 2026/27: to R1 290 from 1 April 2026 and to R1 300 from 1 October 2026.

Is the Disability Grant R2 400 or R2 420?

R2 400. The Government Gazette (GN R.7287) and the Department of Social Development both say R2 400. SASSA's means test leaflet prints R2 420, which appears to be an error; if in doubt, ask SASSA.

Will the SRD grant increase?

No. The SRD grant stays at R370 a month and has been extended to 31 March 2027.

When will the 2027/28 amounts be known?

New amounts are usually announced in the Budget Speech and then published in the Government Gazette. We add them only once they are gazetted.
